From the Authors

Tina Sykes

I was bit by the acting bug at an early age.  My parents encouraged this creative side of me and allowed me to participate in school plays and in Community Theater.  Being on stage and performing in front of a live audience still gives me goose bumps.  I find joy in becoming the character and living her live for a few short hours. J  This love for developing characters led me into writing.  I began writing poetry, short stories, children’s books and about 2 or 3 unfinished novels. .

Cleveland O. McLeish.

There are so many times that I go to my bed feeling stressed and overly depressed not knowing how to make my life work. There have been so many nights that I go to sleep hoping that in the morning everything would change and I would be alright. I guess, though life offers you few pivoting moments in life where it seems that everything has changed, it really doesn't offer enough and sometimes when you look at how hard you have to work to achieve little...it weighs heavily on you.

But now I have a testimony, many testimonies, in fact and in each of my plays...a testimony has been interwoven into them. Today, I can say that the S. H. Playhouse is a brand new morning for me, a new wake up call, a brand new day. My greatest desire is to use God's gift to bless His people for His glory and every time I sit at the computer waiting for the next story to come - I keep in mind that it's not about me...it's all about God.

Drama Skits 2.0 has a fresh approach

A Fresh Voice

Being a Drama Ministry Leader and a Pastor myself, I understand the dynamics of trying to make this type of ministry successful week after week and year after year.  Drama is often seen as "nice but not necessary" to the church at large.  So, for those of us with a passion for this type of ministry have to be careful to make sure that each new project has a fresh approach that continues to minister.  That's why I'm not upset at all about where Playhouse Ministries is going.  I'll be the first one to tell you that it's not about me.  This website was founded on the concept of sharing the vision and sharing the gift.  And with new writers like Cleveland McLeish, Ronnie Stopa, JaPaul Vines, Sheri Gibson-Taylor an now Tina Sykes, I am overjoyed with seeing the vision become a reality.  James and I did a lot of brainstorming this summer about how to improve this ministry.  I am confident that what is developing is by divine order and the writers are God sent.

Tina Sykes

After I read her work, I knew I had to find the perfect place for her style and voice.  After some prayerful thought, I realized that Drama Skits 2.0 was perfect for her.  Like so many of us, her work basically stems from necessity.  She leads the drama ministry in her local church and has to come up with fresh ideas for sermon starters, etc. Tina alone brings over 20 skits to this volume.  More from Tina

Sheri Gibson-Taylor

Sheri does a lot of work with kids in Florida.  She too is a soldier for Christ in her local church- even involving her own children in the fun and excitement of Christian Drama.  Her sense of humor is contagious as you will see in the several skits that she's contributed to this collection.

Cleveland O. McLeish

Cleveland's work is well documented at this link but I just had to give you a taste of what he brings to the table in Drama Skits 2.0.  The unexpected hidden treasure is definitely in Cleveland's contribution.

JaPaul Vines

JaPaul is a young man who's on fire for the Lord in his church in Birmingham.  He's been with us for a while and has written several plays for us.  Check out his website.
